Prompt: In ten minutes, write about a topic you know little to nothing about, but write as if you know something about it.
My story:
The stock market is a roller coaster that leaves me feeling dizzy. Still, he talks about it all day every day, as if he has the delusional idea that I will understand it in time. “It’s a buyer’s market, Cynthia, so now is the time to jump in!”
I nod absently, wondering where the remote has wandered off to. In my silence, he continues, “How much have you got saved up in your CD now? Maybe you’ve got a good deal on that account, but trust me, your potential could be so much higher! You just have to listen to me.”
I’m not listening to him, as I turn the volume up on the TV. Yes! The Colts are ahead by a mile!
“Cynthia?” he drones on, “I’m telling you, if you ever want to retire, you absolutely must invest in tech! It’s the future! If you had listened to me about Bitcoin, we’d be millionaires by now, but no. You just sit there in your ignorance.”
Jumping up suddenly with both fists in the air, I scream, “Touchdown! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Suck on that, Patriots! Whoo!”
As I settle back into my chair, I glance up at him to see his eyes narrowed at me. “Really?” he asks rhetorically, “Were you even listening.”
With a sigh, I say, “Hey, I told you when you married me that I will never understand it, and I don’t intend to become a liar. Want a peanut?”
He’s still sulking, but he sits next to me and takes a peanut from the bowl.
