Prompt: In ten minutes, write a story that begins with the words, "I write this sitting in the kitchen sink...."
My story:
I write this sitting in the kitchen sink. Surprisingly enough, it’s drier here than on the floor around me. It was foolish I knew, to use a book about the ocean in my first summoning spell, but here I am, living through the consequences.
I was just too excited to practice a second-level spell after getting my blue hat in wizardry. Even at second level, they say you need a supervisor when practicing. I have always been painfully independent, so I grabbed the first book I saw as soon as I got home.
What was that? The dark water that must be three feet deep all over my floor isn’t still anymore. Is there something… in there? I reach across toward the island where I left the book, but it’s no use trying. Perhaps a summoning spell will do the trick.
The only spell I can remember is one that brings imagined things to life, but I need one that brings my spell book to me. What can I do but imagine my spell book in my hands? I’m closing my eyes, the blue wizard’s hat just drooping over my eyebrows, and I hold out my hands to cast.
What’s this? The storybook I used-- I remember now the monster from inside it. Oh no… I’ve remembered it mid-summoning spell. My eyes shoot open. The surface of the water trembles as my heart pounds. Why did I use that book?
